Souther Salazar

Do You know the work of Souther Salazar? I love his tiny sculptures the best.  I love his creativity and imaganation.  I imagine him having fun creating these characters with detailed stories to go with each piece.  Enjoy!  FeeFee Slurpy Mixed media 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches Lightbulb Balloon (orange) Mixed media 6 x 3 x 2 inches The Day We Escaped Mixed media 3 1/2 x 3 x 6 inches Bartholomew Mixed media 4 x 3 x 3 inches A Retired Cleaner of Attics Mixed media 3 x 5 x 2 inches images from here: Memory of a Giant Mixed media and collage on panel 5 x 4 feet Images of Salazar is his studio from here: Salazar’s MySpace page: Interview with Salazar: I think this might be my favorite Salazar painting.  Lastly, flickr images- these were done for the magazine Juxtapoz.  T gets this magazine.  It is so cool.

Wash your hands

Here is the CDC video on Swine Flu In a nutshell, swine flu or pig flu is very similar to human flu.  Originally, people who were around infected pigs caught it but it can be passed from human to human.  Just like the regular flu, it can be mild or very serious.  It is being advised that employers encourage their employees to stay home if they are having flu-like symptoms to stop the spread.  Obama is encouraging schools to close for confirmed or suspected cases of wine flu.  The NY Times said a toddler (from Mexico) died in TX today from swine flu.  article here:   You can track the number of cases worlwide here: It is even more important now to wash our hands.  The BEST way to prevent infections is to wash your hands.  It is hard to believe but there are still people out there who do not cover their mouth when they sneeze or cough.  I have had patients cough right in my face!  People don’t wash their hands after they cough into them …

Mr. Rogers

Even if you don’t read the post- watch the one minute video at the end.  It is Mr. Rogers message to us- those who grew up watching him.  It really will make your day! FeeFee         15 Reasons Mr. Rogers Was The Best Neighbor Ever   1. Even Koko the Gorilla loved him Most people have heard of Koko, the Stanford-educated gorilla who could speak about 1000 words in American Sign Language, and understand about 2000 in English. What most people don’t know, however, is that Koko was an avid Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood fan. As Esquire reported, when Fred Rogers took a trip out to meet Koko for his show, not only did she immediately wrap her arms around him and embrace him, she did what she’d always seen him do onscreen: she proceeded to take his shoes off! 2. He Made Thieves Think Twice According to a TV Guide piece on him, Fred Rogers drove a plain old Impala for years. One day, however, the car was stolen from the street …

Je n’ai pas la pêche

“Je n’ai pas la pêche” (“I don’t have the peach”) This is a French saying for I’m feeling down.     image from: Everyone has told me that my lay off had nothing to do with my job performance.  When my position ended on my “home” floor I was offered a job on another unit (a position that couldn’t be filled- and I figured out why really fast) but I just couldn’t do it.  I knew we needed the money but this job- it was bad.  I want to give details but I won’t on a public blog.  I tried it for a few weeks but I was so miserable that one day I just could NOT go back.  Because I technically quit the hospital I was not given any severence pay even though I was not fired-  My position was CUT.   I really feel screwed because my director didn’t even give me a letter of recommendation.  (I did receive glowing recommendations from my charge nurses/direct managers).  The lay off came just a few days after a really great evaluation I …

A turtle, a frog and a spider stay together to survive.  I found this on the internet with the following caption.      After three days of storms and rain, we found these three floating in a pool filter, clinging to each other to survive. All of them were exhausted from the effort and were reluctant to part ways after being rescued.

Sunny Sunday

Hi and thanks for stopping by today!  It is bright and sunny today.  Are you enjoying your Sunday?  Today T and I did a little hiking.  I took it slow .  The trail was a lot rockier than I expected.  We had hiked a different mountain in the past and the trail was very different.  Last night I thought this was a fabulous and super fun idea.  Then this morning before I was even fully awake T reminded me we are hiking today.  It didn’t sound as exciting it did last night.  Me: (wiping the sleep from eyes on the way to the mountain) “Why don’t you go on a ahead and I’ll wait in the air conditioned car.  I can see the pics you took when you get back.” T:  “That wouldn’t be very much fun, now would it?”  Me: silently thinking “It would be for me but it doesn’t look like there’s anyway out of it now.”     Here are some shots T and I took today.    Starting out We’ve  been on the trail …
