When I was looking up Marilyn Monroe online this is what I learned about her: Her dad died when she was very young (3 or 4 years old) in a motorcycle accident. Her mother wasn’t mentally stable so she ended up in foster care. She lived with over 7 families. Marilyn Monroe was raped at around age 8 but the family didn’t believe her. She reported that she was raped by a man named Mr. Kimmel who was an actor. He was renting a room from the foster family at the time. source In her adult life she was also molested but no one believed that story either. (Someone broke into her house and neighbors heard her screaming for help so called police). That is just so sad to have happened even once let alone twice in her lifetime. Her mother had paranoid schizophrenia and depression ran in their family. She always dreamed of being an actress even as a young child. “I knew I belonged to the public and to the world, not because I was talented or even …
Marilyn Monroe “Marilyn always dreamt of being an actress. She didn’t, by the way, dream of being just a star. She dreamt of being an actress. And she had always lived somehow with that dream. And that is why, despite the fact that she became one of the most unusual and outstanding stars of all time, she herself was never satisfied. When she came to New York, she began to perceive the possibilities of really accomplishing her dream, of being an actress.” ~Lee Strasberg I don’t mind living in a man’s world as long as I can be a woman in it. Marilyn Monroe No one ever told me I was pretty when I was a little girl. All little girls should be told they’re pretty, even if they aren’t. Marilyn Monroe I’m very definitely a woman and I enjoy it. Marilyn Monroe If I’d observed all the rules, I’d never have got anywhere. Marilyn Monroe

Jean Patchett 1926-2002 Vogue Model. Modeled in the 40’s , 50’s and early 60’s. In a period when models could be deliciously snooty, Ms. Patchett was more modest: not the girl-next-door type, but not as sophisticated as Ms. Parker, either. She was punctual and polite, often saying ”yes, ma’am” and ”no, sir.” When she introduced herself to an editor or a photographer, she said: ”I’m Jean Patchett. You don’t darn it. You patch it.” So cute! From: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/04/nyregion/jean-patchett-75-a-model-who-helped-define-the-50-s.html Enjoy the photos!
